Some of us on Twitter were playing with M&A scenarios-this was one.

  1. If it did so, Apple would first have to become a lot more interested in a cross-platform strategy–not only with the creative products such as Photoshop but also with the new Web stuff such as Apollo. So far, it’s shown little interest in Windows beyond QuickTime and iPod-enabling iTunes. Aperture and Final Cut remain Mac OS X-only applications.

  2. Interesting idea. Of course, the link is just Twitter noise since… it’s private. 😉

  3. That would be a bad idea. I think Apple is in an entirely different business (the delivery of entertainment more and more). They would be better off buying a movie studio or a record label.

Besides, Adobe ins going to be in a world of hurt if the Dell+Ubuntu thing takes off. (ever tried running photoshop on a linux machine, or any of their other tools?) Flash took so long to get to Linux now nobody likes flash anymore. What else? Mmmhh?

  4. Hey James,
I think this could be a good move for Apple due to their lacking web strategy. Ipod only will be not enough in future. MS is moving forward from OS to Sharepoint server 2007 as the new OS on middle tier (“SharePoint is the definitive OS or platform for the middle tier,” Ballmer explained in march)
So what is Apple’s move? This could be one possibility, but definitely they have to move not to loose their own OS to the online OS or online apps/RIAs in the future…

  5. thanks for the comments chaps.

    Good point Stephen, as ever.

Michael – Apple has some really interesting webside functionality in Leopard. I wouldnt count them out quite yet… Surprising they don’t make more of APIs to iTunes though.

chris- Dell and ubuntu is definitely one to watch

  6. Personally I think Apple would benefit greatly, but only if they open sourced Flash/Flex and ported the all these products to Linux. They should also modernize their web server on OS X to be in tune with todays hot technologies so it falls into place with Apple’s easy to use OS atmosphere.

Windows is slipping, Linux and OS X could be the future and I would put all my attention there, while leveraging the power of the open source community for web. I would also dump Apollo, and ignore Silverlight, because they break the web and only exist to be better than the web itself, which has proven time and time again to always land on it’s feet where others fall. Do we really need another temporary marketing ploy anyway?

As for entertainment, you can never fail where entertainment is concerned unless greed and control keeps you from seeing the light. I wouldn’t count out the un-anointed talent on the web either, but embrace them now fully.
