IBM DB2 Express has had 100k downloads. 20k of those are the Ruby on Rails toolkit. In case your math isn’t so good that is 20% of the total number of downloads from IBM are by potential Rails developers.
Is Ruby going to be the fastest growing development language in IT history? Its certainly shaping up that way. I know Tim Bray from Sun thinks its going to be huge. Its fundamentally changing some markets already. Systems management companies with nice looking GUIs? No way – well check out the prettiness on Spiceworks and FiveRuns.
