Don Bowen, The Wizard of Identity Management, was a wonderful man and a true friend of RedMonk. I am still finding it hard to believe that he won’t pop up on skype for a chat any more.
As you probably know, I am not a religious man but I have to say thanks to God for making Don’s last couple of years bearable. From my perspective it was almost weird, Don’s total happiness in the face of such a tough battle. But I guess that is what faith is.
On October 31, 2009, my Lord threw His loving arms around me tightly, invited me to enjoy life in this new world of His and pronounced me cancer free. He promised you and me a miracle if we prayed BIG, and He has kept His promise.
A miracle indeed. He left behind a beautiful family, who i am sure are now buoyed by the same faith. Thanks for sending the link to the memorial service, Bob.
I met Don back when he worked at Sun on identity management products. He had a great sense of humour, and was always ready to laugh. I can almost hear him chuckling now. Don believed in God, family, the Green Bay Packers, hard work, and doing the right thing. He always seemed entirely convinced RedMonk would change the world. Thanks man.
I wrote a few months back about another friend of RedMonk, Jeffrey Walker, that we also lost to cancer. Tough year.

that’s terrible news. my best to Don’s family: he was an impressive guy: smart, intense, but always willing to listen.
he’ll be missed.
