Both Oracle and SAP are building tight integration with IDS modeling tools, which go beyond simple import and export of models. This is not some BPEL modelling too we’re talking about here-but a semanticallty rich (in vertical terms) environment for modeling business process.
Neither firm wants to drive more joint engagements and then see the other company acquire their partner.
So although there are elements of the IDS culture which are somewhat academic, I assume one or the other, Redwood Shores or Walldorf, is going to have to jump in there.
I spoke to SAP about IDS recently, and frankly I am surprised the two haven’t already done a deal.
