I wanted to check the price of a bottle of Macon-Villages, spurred on by a comment from Robin Wilton, so I decided to check out Tesco.com.
For those of you unfamiliar with Tesco it is the UK’s biggest retailer, and has some the distinction of beating up WalMart here.
There, i noticed, nestling at the bottom of the page, a little icon that said Tesco RSS.
Oi oi I thought – what’s all this then? So I clicked on the link which brought me here. Cor blimey strike a light, Guvnor, they’ve only gone and done it.
45% off some wine. A deal of the day, via RSS. neat.
The implemenation breaks down when you click on the link to the deal of the day, which always takes you to the same deals page, rather than the specific item you clicked, but overall the feed approach is undoubtedly a step in the right direction. A little tweaking could pay dividends.
I prefer Sainsbury’s, in the main, but this experiment is interesting. I wonder what the folks at 173 Drury Lane will have to say about RSS. No feeds from Sainsbury yet, I fear.

If you’re using Tesco already, their Terra Viva organic red is also good. It still has some of that tannic ‘grip’ which so many winemakers don’t seem to dare to expect us to drink any more.
