Almost from its beginning, the search for objective knowledge in baseball has been a shared journey. Baseball, as we know it today, would literally not exist without a robust community of data collectors and analysts. This talk will examine the history of open collaboration in the study of baseball, from Bill James through to Pitch FX and Statcast and highlight the indelible impact the sabermetric community has had on the national pastime.
