Great talk by Aneel Lhakani on the past, present and future of making. Aneel talks about how “we build things on things that other people built”, standing on the shoulders of giants. It’s easy to forget how many decades and lifetimes went into the foundations of what we build on today in tech. The talk also considers the continual introduction of new intermediaries and abstractions and how far removed we are from the supply chains we rely on. Aneel argues that although we, as consumers, are at the end of the supply chain, we are in fact the product that’s being sold through marketing to middlemen. We’re being industrially farmed for capital. Good times.
