anyone even vaguely surprised by this is naive: this is the the inevitable cost of sacrificing civil liberties indefinitely for an unquantifiable and yet promised return. and at the same time, this is _least_ problematic eavesdropping scenario i can envision. what happens when it's used for political gain?

i've heard this more than a few times lately, but the sales figures for Vista are ok (even if artifically inflated in many cases (like mine))

Not only should you expect better from Gruber, it isn’t at all clear that Android is particularly great, UI-wise. Google’s focus on simple and fast is admirable, and GNOME could stand to go still farther in that direction, but at the end of the day there is only so much you can cut out- at some point you have to provide some UI, and Google has no track record of being particularly innovative in that area.
