@Lone Star Ruby Conference

I’m at the Lone Star Ruby Conference today and tomorrow. Check out all these people on iChat Bonjour, that’s the most I’ve seen at a conference:

Bonjour at Lone Star Ruby Conference

Right now, we’re getting a presentation from James Edward Gray II about “Ruby as a Glue Language.” Or, as I’d like to call it “don’t be afraid to shell out.” While the Java programmer in me instantly rebels against any notion of touching the underlying operating system — or otherwise breaking out of the safety blankie of the VM — treating your OS like just another piece of middleware, or simply a library, is certainly handy if you control the OS as much as the runtime you’re in.

On the topic of the conference: this place is hella packed! I got here late so I’m with the people sitting along the wall instead of the nice round tables that fill the middle of the room. They did a good job of selling out this thing, which is great.

See ya’ll around ;>
