Naming this particular entry as I wrote it up, I tagged it 08 for what is likely to be the first of many such occurrences for the next month if I’m lucky. Six if I’m not.
Anyway, I’d love to tell you all about my winter vacation, but we have a few problems. One: it wasn’t, strictly speaking, a vacation. I had a bunch of things that demanded at least a portion of my attention (and those things seem to have procreated with each other quickly over the “break”) meaning that I had to spend at least parts of most days doing something. Which sort of defeated the purpose, although I wasn’t taking calls and I did get to nap a lot.
But on a related and perhaps more important note, there just wasn’t a whole lot to report. Unless you’re fascinated by the fact that I started swimming again. Apart from a nice and uneventful visit with the family down in NJ/NYC (Mom made 14 kinds of cookies: for real) and a New Year’s Eve spent in good old Bath, Maine, things were pretty quiet. Well, apart from that nor’easter that dumped a foot on us and crippled my back.
Hence the swimming.
The good news or bad news, depending on your perspective, is that there’s a fairly substantial queue of items to be discussed. And I’ll have more details on an event that David Berlind, Dave Nielsen and I are putting together shortly. In the meantime, I hope your inbox looks nothing at all like mine. If I wasn’t helping to organize this thing on the 20th, I would have followed Blizzard and DeWitt’s lead and just rebooted the cursed thing.
But what cannot be cured must be endured, as the family’s unofficial motto goes (it’s actually less brutal than the official one). So I’m in for some long nights the next few weeks. As always in these situations, if you’re waiting on something urgent, I highly recommend channels than are not email because I’m actively using the Homer Simpson triage method.
