Finally, after years of being in this business, someone throws a conference in my home town and what happens? The damn thing sells out in 4 hours. Like Peter, I was too slow on the draw, though I tried to book the next afternoon. So despite the fact that the conference is within wallking distance, I’ll be on the outside looking in like a lot of other interested parties in the Denver area.
This does not, of course, mean that we cannot hold our own Ruby themed event. Say a Ruby oriented Denver Tech Meetup to be held sometime during the conference. Maybe we can even persuade Tim Bray to join us for a pint or two, as he’ll be presenting.

You may not be out of luck, sog: http://blogs.pragprog.com/cgi-bin/pragdave.cgi/Random/RailsEdge.html
I think it’s kinda screwy how fast the Ruby interest is scaling up.
And yet I still haven’t met more than one other Rubyist IRL.

The same thing happened to me with RubyConf last year, except s/Denver/San Diego/.

Cote: could be. i’m missing BarCamp at the end of August, but maybe a quick turnaround for a Ruby themed event is in the works.
Danno: thx for the link. highly unlikely i’ll fork out the cash for it – as a rule, we don’t pay for conferences, but maybe i can wrangle a press/analyst invite.
as for Rubyists, i’ve met lots of them but that’s to be expected, i suppose, given what i do.
Edward: sucks, doesn’t it? i’d been looking forward to this for a while, only to have this happen. oh well.
