  Two items from the ASF on all the Java hubbub: (1.) "the Apache Harmony project is evaluating its project goals and future, as Oracle's decision blocks Harmony from achieving the original community goal of a TCK-tested, spec-compliant, Apache-licensed implementation of Java SE." (2.) "We thank IBM Corporation for their contributions to Apache Harmony, and wish them well in their future endeavors in open source Java."

  "For other efforts, I cannot recommend to anyone that they use the JCP JSR process, as opposed to some other group/organization/body, to gain consensus for proposed specifications. So I expect to see fewer submissions as people begin to realize that other venues provide better opportunities. I suppose there is some possibility that I will help improve support for such standards elsewhere, but I don't have any immediate plans."

  A bold post from Ian Skerrett imploring Oracle to get involved in the conversation around Java. It's not a beat like Siebel, Oracle DB, and PeopleSoft that you can just milk cash from – or, maybe that's the point and we just have to get used to the community implications thereof. Conspiracy theories ahoy!
