"In the meantime, this brings back the question of what’s the current modeling story in the System Center team. SDM? SML? Some M-based replacement? Back to CIM? I am just asking because they had been a lot more public and proactive on this than other management vendors, but this has stopped abruptly."

- Chuck's Blog: A Starter Private Cloud For IT
"Standard IT procedures and architectures don't meet the needs of these groups. Fail to meet their needs, and IT will lose control of an important constituency. Indeed, as you drill down into the preciously few examples of brand-name corporations using external cloud services such as Amazon et. al., you'll usually find a user constituency with unmet needs. Go back and look at these sample user groups I've outlined. In most cases, they're responsible for creating significant business value for their organizations they work in. If they organize themselves, they're more than capable of having enough clout to go outside the firewall to get what they need."
- Amazon launches virtual private clouds « RightScale Blog
"Something that initially puzzled me is what the benefits of a VPC are when all the marketing fluff dissipates. Here is what I’ve learned. First, instances in the VPC are separated from non-VPC instances at a deeper network level than instances in different security groups or belonging to different users. As is typical, Amazon doesn’t say anything of substance about the nature of this isolation. Let’s see how soon that will have to change to actually attract enterprises… Second, instances in the VPC can seamlessly integrate into a company’s internal network routing. This is significant because it means that tools used to inventory, secure, audit, manage, and access all servers in the IT infrastructure can now be brought to bear on instances in the cloud as well."
- Spring has Sprung – Phurnace Software
"The cloud is an environment with a very application-centric approach. However, it will not replace the data center, but instead, augment it. AND, applications will need to migrate between instances in the cloud and between images and servers on premises behind the firewall. To and from the cloud. That is a bunch of configurations tasks or custom scripts that will need to be constantly tweaked and maintained. Unless you use Phurnace. You see, Phurnace can move the applications to and from the cloud and to and from any virtual image, regardless of where it is."

- Amazon does virtual private clouds
"It would be interesting to see Amazon AWS move from cloud to virtual private cloud to on-site private clouds as it builds out its business, and if customers are hesitant to use the VPC offering except for application test and development and maybe some Web services, it is reasonable to expect that Amazon will start deploying infrastructure locally for the big IT organizations that are willing to pony up the space and cash to get it." Hmm… get them into straight-up outsourcing of IT – not sure Amazon would be up to that, but someone like HP, IBM, &co. sure.
