James posted about the SysAdmin of the year context as well, but as I like seeing the people from my roots — developers and tech-heads — getting their due, I wanted to post a pointer to it too.
So, here is the deal:
- You can nominate your neighborhood sysadmin by filling out a small form.
- A panel of judges will decide who wins.
- The prized are:
- One Grand Prize winner will receive a $2,500 Splunk Professional license and an all-expense paid trip to Washington, D.C. to attend the Large Installation System Administration (LISA) Conference December 3-7, 2006.
- A First Prize winner will receive an Apple MacBook.
- Runners Up – Three lucky individuals will receive $2,500 Splunk Professional licenses.
- Honorable Mentions – Five individuals will receive a case of Bawls soda.
- First 2500 nominees receive a free Sysadmin of the Year t-shirt.
As you can guess, I’m but unclear on why the MacBook is the “second place” prize 😉
Kidding aside, if there’s one thing my fellow tech-heads are bad at, it’s using self-promotion as a long-term tool to get things done. Awards, like this, are a great way to do it. So, if I were you, and you like your sysadmin(s), I’d go nominate them. First 2,500 get a free shirt, dude!
And, as James said, as you can imagine, we’re all ears if you want to talk to us about “the craziest sysadmin story ever” ;>
