It is so strange to hear the defense of traditional browser applications in the "RIA debate" video. I take it for granted that the web and desktop are merging. It is early in this evolution, but it seems clear that this is the direction the world is going. Beyond the client side runtimes, the browser itself is finally moving towards more desktop like functionality with things like HTML 5 and Google Gears. These are important evolutions because the traditional browser has put applications in such a limiting box for over a decade.
