In case you didn’t know, I work out of my home office. Doing that has given me a new appreciation for the facilities people at companies: “home grade” furniture isn’t really up to making me comfortable for a full day of work.
The last thing I need to take care of is getting a new chair (see above). The one I have is wooden and ancient. It was my grandfather’s, so I have some emotional attachment to it, sure, but it’s not very comfortable. I think I’m missing the 4PM martini with a side of cheese and crackers that made it work for him ;>
So, does anyone have recommendations? My only requirements are:
- I don’t want to spend a lot of money: $0-300 would be OK.
- I like to lean back and keep my feet up as much as possible.
- The space available isn’t too huge.
- I like wheels on the chair.
Any help would be appreciated. Until then, I’ll keep an eye on craigslist.

Well, it's a little pricey, but I LOVE my Network 8 Mesh Chair. IMHO, it's as comfortable as an Aeron and about half the price. My wife has one too and she loves it (tho not as much as I do).
I've only found it on that one website, but the company (Office-Chairs-Discount.com) are super-responsive and friendly. I sent them two emails over the course of the order and got back a personalized response both times.
I’m going to have to say just go the for the Aeron. It’s the old argument if you’re going to be spending a great portion of the day in a chair working you should be comfortable.
Favorite feature of the Aeron from my experience is the mesh doesn’t hold stains. Spill a soda on it and it goes right through. A little wiping and no stain.
