What About Shaving Cream?

As Mike notes, there are still ways around some of the current “security” measures - tooth power instead of paste, etc. And fortunately, as someone who’s most comfortable in jeans, flip-flops, a t-shirt, and hat - my dop kit doesn’t have too much that’s impacted (no more gel deodorant, though) - no lotions, etc.

Except for one thing: what are people doing about shaving cream? Do you check bags? Or do you all just use electric razors? I had to leave some of my favorite organic shaving cream in the Super 8 this morning because I had no intention of checking my luggage on my (second this week) flight to Denver.

I’ve never used an electric razor, having been a blade guy forever, but if this keeps up I might have to switch. Unless hotels begin stocking rooms with shaving cream much like they do shampoo and so on now.

    Best shaver I’ve ever owned:

    http://www.amazon.com/Braun-8585-Activator-Self-Cleaning-Shaver/dp/B000GU4G36/sr=1-26/qid=1157780174/

Been using it for over a year and a half now, and it still holds a charge for 1 week+.

    1) be a man and grow a beard
    2) back when I used to shave, plain old soap worked fine for me

Plain old soap works, from a mechanical perspective — but you have to be really careful about washing it off, or it leaves you with a really unpleasant tihgt, dry feeling on your face. Makes me feel like I’m really tired, for some reason.

One thing you could do is go back to the mug-of-shaving-soap-and-bristle-brush routine, which (though sometimes difficult to resupply) has the advantage of being dry when not in use. Bit bulky though.

Though I have a beard, I do shave parts of my face daily. To add weight to the others, I use plain old soap. I ran out of shaving gel sometime ago and never bothered to replace it. I was nervous at first, but now it’s fine and it feels good to have one less “product” to worry about and spend money on.
That said, I thought you could now take, like, 3-5 oz. of stuff with you. Now I need to go check the regulations before tomorrow’s flight.

christopher: don’t have them - will have to look them up.

Alex: i don’t know if i can go electric; one more thing to charge.

    Patrick: ha! soap kills me.

Dan: got the tight, dry feeling in spades. not a huge fan of soap.

    Cote: that stuff’s brutal ;)

Buy shaving soap or a small tube (not can) of shave cream and a shaving brush. This can range from <$10 at Wal-Mart (Van Der Hagen brand soap and boar brush) to hundreds of dollars for really high end stuff. For travel either a small tube of Proraso cream or a shave stick package shave soap works great.
