Dodgeball in Denver, Anyone?

No, I don’t mean in the Ben Stiller/Vince Vaughn sense – nothing that would be broadcast on El Ocho. I’m talking instead about the social SMS Dodgeball service, which might be of interest to some of the Denver Tech Meetup folks.

The software basically allows users to check in over SMS and have their location broadcast – on an opt-in basis – to interested parties. So if I’m going to be hitting Common Grounds or Missippi Mud or Dixon’s or the Handlebar & Grill for some midday work, I check in (by sending an SMS notice to the service) and Dodgeball notifies anyone who wants to know where I am, who can stop by if they’ve got time. Cote’s talking about using it to similar ends in Austin, and I think it sounds like a great idea – declarative living at its finest. If you’re interested, my Dodgeball profile is here. Please, no crushes though – the lady friend probably wouldn’t approve :)

You can turn the crushes feature off in the advanced preferences (which you can get to after saving the normal prefs).
