A Quick Take about AWS re:Invent 2024, in which we look at the company’s launches at the event, with a particular focus on its GitLab Duo with Amazon Q.

AWS doubled down on Amazon Q Developer, its chat-based code generation platform, with a suite of agent-based services to enable developers and operators to interact with Amazon services and build new applications and work on existing codebases.

In order to accelerate time to market for Q and increase mindshare and market permission AWS also announced a deal with GitLab. GitLab, just like every other vendor in the industry, sees AI as essential adjunct to its platform. GitLab Duo is its AI enabled platform – chat-based in all of the places where developers would use GitLab, either in the main GitLab interfaces or in IDEs.

At re:Invent the two companies announced GitLab Duo with Amazon Q. Here James Governor, co-founded of RedMonk, discusses the announcements and their implications.
