Let me answer your first question: no, I’m not spending the day in recovery from excessive celebration after Friday‘s theatrics (yes, he hit that ball just as hard as you thought he did) and the win today that sends us to the ALCS. In both cases, my reaction has been elation, yes, but evenly tempered with the recognition that we’ve still got a tough road ahead.
The plan instead is to take the holiday – it’s Columbus Day here in the US, for the readers abroad – to regain my footing. More or less. Having been home for just a couple of days at a time, really, for the last month plus, lots of the little things have slipped. And we all know how important the little things are.
Also, the leaves. They’re changing color, you see. Unevenly, it’s true, which is frustrating, but they’re no less spectacular for that. So it’d be nice to see something of them, given that the next time I’m back from a trip they’re likely to be gone.
What all of this means to you is that I won’t be reachable tomorrow. Not to worry, however, I’ll be back Tuesday. And if something comes up in the interim, one of my colleagues should be able to assist you.
