Confessions of an Internet Junkie

Ok, it’s time. I’ve been denying it for too long, but I’m ready to face it – I’m an internet junkie. My moment of clarity came today when I arrived at the Doubletree down in Portland for the MESDA conference, and my first thoughts were not of finding registration, nor seeking out the individuals I would be sitting on a panel with, nor finding the room I’d be presenting in. No, all I could think of was “do they have wifi?” As it turned out, they did, and I got my fix. And told myself that I could stop if I wanted to. Seriously.

So its time for me to acknowledge that I have a problem.

The people who know me well are likely rolling their eyes at this point, having suffered through countless “Wait, I just need to check email” hour long delays more times than can easily be counted. Nearly everywhere I go, network connectivity is the first priority for me. When it comes to hotels, I’ll stay in a total dive quite happily if they provide me the pipe to the internet I need. I once sat on the ground outside a closed Starbucks in Boston for almost an hour and a half sucking down email and blogs from the T-Mobile connection. Can’t get enough internet.

So enough – I have a problem. There. I intend to do next to nothing to fix it, but at least I’ve admitted it šŸ™‚
