Well, the excellent Calvin Yu went ahead and built it. Sure, it’s just a quick Ruby script rather than something built into the Desktop Background Preferences applet, but it’s refreshing to be able to just trigger a script that will drop in a new Flickr shot automagically. I’m a fan, and with it being built in Ruby I can play around now that I understand the Flickr API / rflickr gem bit better. My sincere thanks to Calvin for this.

In the same vein, wouldn’t it be cool to see the world’s best DRM free music store built into the desktop? If you think so, this might be a good starting spot. I’m a big believer that it’s as important for projects to network – in the informal, non-technical sense – as it is for people. A desktop with seamless hooks into network services like emusic.com and Flickr is a more interesting desktop, as far as I’m concerned.

But anyhow, this particular shot was, I think, the third Flickr image grabbed by Calvin’s script. Pretty cool, n’est-ce pas?
