The glacial pace of our migration away from Exchange may have picked up slightly Friday afternoon. With our accounts completed and set up last week, all that remained before I altered our MX records was a porting of the information out of Exchange and into Zimbra. Easier said than done, I would have expected.
Fortunately, the Zimbra folks have anticipated just such a need and have made available a handy little migration tool. On an Outlook equipped and configured machine, one need only input their Zimbra account info, point it at an export of your mailbox in PST form, and let it go. In my case, the file was around 325 MB’s in size and took approximately an hour to run, but ultimately left me with a fully populated Zimbra account. I’m told the tool is a bit finicky and prone to erroring out on some of the weirder Outlook records, but I had zero issues.
All that’s left now is to get James migrated in similar fashion – he had some trouble getting the tool to connect this afternoon – and we’ll be ready to cut over. With any luck, that will come tomorrow morning, and I’ll be ready to cut us midday before I leave for CA. Which reminds me…
