For those of you interested in keeping up to date on the periodic wanderings of a peripatetic industry analyst, here are some of the latest travel plannings from yours truly. And yes, I’m the worst travel agent on the planet.

  • Allegis Capital Web 2.0 Summit:
At the kind invitation of the folks from Allegis Capital, via Peter Yared (thank you, sir), next Wednesday, the 10th, I’ll be sitting on a panel to discuss Web 2.0 and its technical implications. That’ll be out in Half Moon Bay, CA. The next morning I’ll probably be heading into San Francisco before catching a late afternoon flight back. If anyone would like to book some time with me during the day on Thursday, drop me a line.

  • DebConf:
As discussed yesterday, I will also be attending Debian’s conference held down in Mexico. I’m currently scheduled to arrive on Sunday (the 14th) evening, and depart Tuesday (the 16th) afternoon. Really looking forward to this. From there I head straight to San Francisco for…

  • JavaOne:
I’m currently scheduled to arrive in San Francisco a little after 8; I somehow managed to snag a direct flight from Mexico City. With that schedule, I unfortunately will miss Simon’s Bloggers Meetup, but maybe I can catch some of them later. I’ll also be attending the Geronimo Live! party at the W on Wednesday evening (thanks to the Virtuas folks for the invite), if you’d like to catch me there. Thursday afternoon, I head for home.

  • Summer Travel:
Somebody really needs to talk me out of this, but I’m currently leaning towards driving back to Maine at the end of June. As some of you are aware, I’m planning on retreating to our family place in Maine for the months of July and August (though it’s possible that I might leave earlier in June to catch the best of the Striper fishing season). The initial plan was to fly, but it’s looking more and more like I’ll be letting an office down in Portland – about a 30 minute drive from our place – and the truck I leave there probably isn’t up to daily commuting any longer. It would be helpful, therefore, to have my car out there. It would also be helpful should I wish to bring my bike, my DirecTV receiver, and a handful of other items that would be difficult to fit in the overhead compartment of a JetBlue flight. Logically, driving makes a lot of sense.

Redoing that drive is bad enough; the worse news is that I might have my cat in the car with me. While Azrael has many virtues, being a good car cat is not among them, as I was reminded today when I took her to the vet. [1] Oh, and then there’s the fact that gas now costs 3 bucks a gallon. Can’t wait.

Have a couple of other things I need to post on shortly. Will get to that soon as I can.

[1] Speaking of vets, if you’re a Denver resident I highly recommend Firehouse Animal Hospital over on 6th between Ogden and Corona. My best friend’s wife, Dr. Todd, is a vet there and she and the place are terrific. They even have a customer loyalty program – how progressive is that?
