I’m Ok, You’re Ok

Wow – I didn’t know you cared. While I don’t have time for a long post today (which some of you are no doubt grateful for 😉 – I’ve got some things yet to accomplish on my “working vacation,” as my car just failed the damn state inspection – I felt compelled to post something quickly if only to stem the tide of “are you ok? haven’t heard anything in a while” emails flowing in – several from people I don’t even know.[1] The concern is duly appreciated given that this is probably my longest absence from blogging since I started, but let me put your mind at ease by assuring you first that nothing dire has happened to me since we last chatted, and second that I’ll be returning to regular postings next week – if not over the weekend.

It’s not that my vacation has involved any exotic locales necessitating the primitive rituals of dialup; apart from a quick trip to NJ to visit the family and a New Year’s up in Grand Lake with the gf and some friends, I’ve mostly been puttering around Denver trying to get some boring things done. To combat my natural inclination to work while at home, I’ve been taking a self-imposed hiatus from most things technology, much as Adam Bosworth does during the summer. I’ve been online regularly to track things like the Manny Ramirez/Miguel Tejada rumors (my take? I’m just not that lucky), but the most I’ve done with email is look for subject lines reading URGENT or WE’RE SCREWED, and FeedLounge tells me that I have over 33 thousand unread blogs at the moment (thank the great spirit for “Mark All Read”). If you’ve left me an urgent voicemail despite the greeting informing you that I wouldn’t be checking them, well, all I can say is that you were warned.

So that’s about it for today. Meantime, enjoy your respective weekends and look for more from me shortly summarizing the exciting events that have transpired since my last missive 😉

[1] An interesting and amusing cousin to the “hey – are you ok” emails has been the cranky, “why aren’t you posting? i’m bored” queries. While I suppose it’s flattering to think that people get enough out of my random musings to get irritated when they’re suspended, I find it slightly odd that they regard the content as a right.
