Usually, it’s the hat. As just about anyone who’s seen me outside of a formal venue can tell you, a Red Sox hat is a staple of my existence. Has been since my first visit to Fenway. [1] It’s no surprise, therefore, that the prevailing assumption is that I’m from the town my team calls home.
What is perplexing, however, is how a few deluded individuals have come to believe – fervently – that my speech has been colored by an association with said town. While I’ll admit to the occasional employment of “wicked,” this denotes nothing more than an appreciation for the word’s efficiency and versatility. It’s at once shorter than “ridiculous” and more erudite than “very.”
I can assure you, then, that other than that one habit, my manner of speaking is as location independent as my current means of employment. A fact that has been verified by multiple independent third parties.
