Remind me never to insinuate that my abysmal travel luck has been successfully transferred to Cote; capricious fate seems intent on seeing that I pay for those comments in spades. While JetBlue insisted all afternoon that my flight would depart on time – despite the fact that virtually every other airline traveling in and out of DIA had already canceled the entirety of their schedules – they eventually saw the light and admitted that my flight wasn’t going either. Good thing, too, because even had I made it to the airport I apparently would have been faced with whiteout and heavy snow drifts on the drive home.
The problem now is not today’s cancellation, but the fact that the storm is expected to extend into tomorrow. The official DIA site, in fact, is claiming that the airport will be closed through tomorrow evening. Should that be the case, I’ve got some difficult decisions to make.
I’m currently scheduled to be departing for LaGuardia Friday morning from DIA, so that is the first problem. That’s solvable, however, in that I can almost certainly procure transport down to New Jersey from Boston. How I’d return from there1, however, and what I’d do about my Christmas gifts are open questions, however. Suggestions appreciated, as always
In the meantime, I’ve returned to my home away from home, the Hotel Marlowe. I’m going to try and get a decent night’s sleep and reevaluate the situation in the morning. I’ll be available on the cell or IM, unless by some miracle I make an early flight.
- It’s a little known fact, but if you miss the outbound leg of a flight the airline automatically cancels the return flight. Even if you ask them not to. [back]
