Travel, Etc Notes This Week

Share via Twitter Share via Facebook Share via Linkedin Share via Reddit

Before I head out, just a reminder that I’ll be in Anaheim, CA Monday and Tuesday of this week at the IBM Information On Demand conference. As far as I can remember, this will be my first trip to Anaheim so it should be interesting, though I’m being deposited in LAX rather than the much closer John Wayne airport due to the vagaries of airline scheduling. If there’s anything any of you want to know from the IBM Information Management folks – on DB2, hybrid XML capabilities, and so on – now’s your chance. Drop a comment or an email and I’ll see if I can’t get it answered for you. Of interest to some of you will be a demo of DB2 running on top of Xen running on top of Opteron, which actually brings me to another point.

Responses to my virtualization query have been trickling in slowly and I’ll have a handful of answers to share with you folks sometime this week. If you’re an ISV and want to be included in that post, feel free to share your response, and please be sure to note whether or not I can use the information publicly. A couple of vendors have not responded yet, and I’ll be hitting them up again to see if I can shake loose an answer for you.

I should also have another one of those long(ish) essays of marginal interest (LEMI’s) to share with you all. You may remember those from such pieces as “Balance, Buddhism, Burnout and More” or “Of Everything You Know To Be Right and True, Only Some Is.” I try to keep them to a minimum, but something’s been bugging me recently and I think it’s worth discussing, so my apologies in advance. I’ll be sure to warn you at the top of the entry, in case you want to skip it.
