Buried Alive

Apologies for the lack of posts today. I have a half written post on languages, politics and scalability sitting in gedit, and one three quarters done on a proposed network offering, but haven’t managed to finish either off because I’m digging myself out a backlog of email, regular mail, voicemail and so on. I’ve at least managed to get my gear set back up, although it looks like a bomb went off in this place with random boxes and wires strewn about (it doesn’t help that the cat enjoys climbing in the boxes, knocking them over and spilling everything in them out). I’ve also got Gentoo installing on Apone; where I was once Ubuntu on the server and Gentoo on the desktop, my distros of choice will be exchanging roles. One random thing: if you’re an MT user, and your “Empty Junk Folder” button isn’t working, make sure it can find your mt-static folder. Ours was in the wrong place, causing the button not to work. I deleted just shy of a 100,000 spammed comments today.

I’ll see if I can finish off one or both entries over the weekend, but it may be problematic because I’m headed up to the mountains tomorrow. Early. While I’m not a big fan of early mornings, particularly on weekends, I’ve agreed to participate in a river cleanup effort with a friend of mine who works for Trout Unlimited. So while some of you are enjoying a lazy Saturday morning, I’ll be waist deep in the Colorado river at 9,000 feet picking up trash. Oh, and it may rain.

The good news is that I get to fish that afternoon, which should be fun. Sunday the same friend and I are packing a whole bunch of weird, heavy survey gear up into Rocky Mountain National Park to do some sort of field work. Then more fishing. Back late Sunday.

Anyhow, enjoy your weekends and I’ll hopefully have a couple of entries for you soon; provided I can dig myself out of the deluge of to do’s besieging me.
