Following the longest vacation I’ve taken in quite some time – 10 glorious (or not so glorious, depending on your opinion of home maintenance and car inspections) days of not working – I’m finding it just a tad difficult to regroup and focus on the task(s) at hand. Fortunately, given the timing – holidays and all, I don’t feel that I’m that far behind. Couple of hundred emails, thirty five thousand blog entries, nine voicemails – no big deal. Right?
Bringing you all up to speed on my doings since we last spoke at length will be quick and not particularly thrilling. As discussed briefly last Friday, I was back in NJ for Christmas, then back to Denver, then up in the mountains (Grand Lake) for New Year’s, and finally back in Denver last week. Interspersed between the two vacations and the monotony of car maintenance, massive recycling trips and some sys admin work were a couple of dinners with friends, one painful bowl loss (Notre Dame – my team, though neither I nor any of my family went there), one outstanding bowl win (Texas – not my team, but the lady friend’s), and some dog sitting while my best friend and his wife welcomed their first born into the world (healthy baby girl – congrats guys).
All in all, it may not have been the most entertaining vacation, but it’s certainly in the running for the most relaxing. Having no agenda except for a few basic, easily completable tasks for the day turns out to be a solid recipe for a low stress respite from the daily grind. Mentally, I feel refreshed, if slightly overwhelmed. Physically, I’m good, with the exception of some pretty badly torn up feet from snowshoeing and a wounded hand courtesy of an animal that chose to bite the hand that feeds it.
Anyhow, I’ll be posting my travel plans and a couple of other things shortly, and in the meantime I’m happy to be back with you all again (even if I’d prefer to lose some of the administration type stuff I’m stuck with). I hope your holidays – if you celebrated them – were as relaxing as mine. I’m nearly caught up on email, so if there’s anything urgent that I’ve missed let me know because you should have received a response by now. Skype’s currently broken – as is my Exchange Connector for Evolution (thanks to this little gem)[1], but I should be back on IM tomorrow.
