In what will be my last bit of (work related) travel until late January, I was delighted to present a revised (ODF, PPT) version of my “Bottom Up Marketing” talk first thing this morning. The Eclipse Board & Council came up with some really excellent questions following as well, just as their marketing counterparts did. The updates to the deck are very minor; I’ve added a slide with an excellent quote from Kathy Sierra at the suggestion of my colleague, and I’ve updated the list of recommended blogs to a.) give some new faces a look and b.) more specifically target today’s more technical audience. Thanks to Ian and Mike for the kind invitation to speak; I very much enjoyed it, and even had the honor of meeting the inventor of the wiki – Ward Cunningham (thankfully I said only nice things about his creations ;). I also got to catch up briefly before the session with Zend’s Andi Gutmans
I’m also happy to report that after arriving at a reasonable hour yesterday evening, I was able to connect with the man behind Delancey, A9’s DeWitt Clinton as well as his lovely SO for an evening of curried tofu, naan, and shop talk. Not only by virtue of his technical skills and employment history, DeWitt’s an interesting resource on an array subjects from DRM to Web 2.0. Great conversation on this end, and hugely valuable to speak to someone out there building the next generation of web applications forward. If you get a chance, I highly suggest you keep an eye on his work over at Unto.net – he’s got some very interesting projects in mind.
With a couple of other RedMonk business tasks on the docket this afternoon, I wasn’t able to stick around and meet with one of our clients (sorry, Barb) in SF, and am currently sitting on an earlier flight home. Will be back soon enough, however. In other news, I’ve got a couple of things I need to get to this week – a bunch of you have asked about Sun’s Java DB (aka Derby) news, for example. Look for that stuff tomorrow & Friday.
