Minor Changes to tecosystems

Just wanted to give you all a heads up on a couple of minor – emphasis on the minor – changes to the the space here. For those of you that occasionally stop by, I’ve added three new features: 1.) a “del.icio.us this” link for each entry on the main page, 2.) a del.icio.us “linkroll” via yet another new feature Josh and co have rolled out, and 3.) an OpenSolaris button. Might have a minor new feature for www.redmonk.com to announce while we’re all waiting for RedMonk 3.0 (thanks to a Friend of RedMonk who’s generously volunteered his time to work out a CSS issue) but we’ll see on that.

I’m particularly excited about the linkroll thing, b/c as previously noted I use my del.icio.us feed as something of a link blog – posting short comments on articles I don’t have time to cover in full here. I’ve had links integrated before via a perl script/server side include set up, but that didn’t fetch my comments, just the links. The only problem with the new feature is that it’s stashed three quarters of the way down the page, so few if any of you will use it. I could move it up, but I don’t want to displace search, or my contact info. After I get www.redmonk.com upgraded, I’ll be having someone take a hack at new templates for our respective blogs because they’re not exactly paragons of efficiency in terms of user design, but first things first.

For the OpenSolaris folk, I’m happy to have the badge up, but do I really need the trademark agreement for a mere button? Slightly off-putting.
