Things You Have to Pay For

I’ve talked many times before about things we give away for free here at RedMonk – most extensively here – but I thought I’d take a minute to talk about what isn’t free. In the run ups to both OSCON and LWW we’ve received innumerable requests from exhibiting vendors to provide quotes for press releases or to serve as press references or both. Much as we appreciate the vendors attention in that regard, both of those are unfortunately services we have to restrict to our paying clients mostly because they can be time consuming on our end. The press is always free to call us independently on whatever they’re curious about, of course, but we can’t have non-paying clients directing such inquiries our way for bandwidth reasons if nothing else. Limited subscriptions with a few hours of consulting time, press servics and the like start at $2500 for small ISVs, so we don’t think the cost is prohibitive, and we’re more than happy to give a bit of feedback on launch decks in prebriefings, but we’ve gotta get paid somehow 😉 Hope you all understand.
