Had this happen before and am curious as to whether or not anyone else has experienced it. I voluntarily use the ‘Lite’ front end to ESPN.com (lite.espn.go.com), mostly because they use so much flash and animation on the regular version that the page takes forever to load even over broadband. Very often the links from the Lite pages are broken, as below (note the superfluous http://espn.go.com):
http://espn.go.comhttp//sports.espn.go.com/nfl/columns/story?columnist=wojnarowski
_adrian&id=1892988
But what I don’t understand is why if I simply remove the http://espn.go.com, giving me http//sports.espn.go.com/nfl/columns/story?columnist=wojnarowski_adrian&id=1892988, the link redirects me to Microsoft’s homepage, www.microsoft.com.
It’s not a big deal, obviously, but is something that I’ve experienced before that I don’t have an explanation for. I know that Disney/ABC/ESPN have ties to MSN/Microsoft, but is it to the degree that HTTP 404s (assuming that’s the problem) are redirected there? It’s just plain weird. And it’s not browser or OS behavior, because it’s happening on Linux/Firefox.
Anyway, just something strange to pass along.
