When I received my digital camera as a gift two or three years ago, it came complete with a Nikon Compact Flash card with a modest (even at the time) 8 MBs of memory. That translates to about 30 pictures at its “Normal” resolution. It was almost like a traditional film-based box, in that after 30 pictures I had to empty it on to my laptop. I’d always meant to upgrade it, but never got around to it.
But at the Sun conference last week, my old colleague Gordon Haff informed me that Buy.com had 1G CF cards available here for $50 (after rebate – $75 before).
Got one – with free shipping no less – dropped it in the camera, and fired up the Coolpix 775 and what displayed? 0 of 2082. For $50 I went from 30 pictures to over 2000.
Ain’t cheap memory great?
