…so Google can’t claim it’s Java, and if I’m a developer I now have to choose between Davlik and Jme (or is it Jse)? Seems like they’re dicking around with Sun, eh?

I had a suspicion they were on this type of path… it’s a very savvy move. Google applied some very insightful genius in devising the Android platform - I guess you can do that with the lineup of open source software rock stars they’ve brought on board.

Now the true test is building a community around Android. If you apply an economic lens, it’s obvious there are likely to be a few motivated firms to participate and leverage Android as a community - and it’s unlikely that this license will be a barrier. It’s obviously too early to call it a success or failure, but if you ask me, Google’s Android appears well positioned.
