“Microsoft already spends a huge amount of money on patent settlements…That number will creep upwards until it’s abundantly clear to them that they would be better off if software patents were history.” - a point i tried to make at NXT

“I found Redmonk Stephen O’Grady’s presentation most impressive of the day’s. His rationale for OS ISVs was that the choice of Microsoft as a platform is simple - as an OS ISV with thin margins volume is what is most crucial…” - thx, Subhash

“What’s everyone so afraid of?” - unquestionably (b), in my opinion; talking to vendors as we do, there’s no doubt that some of the big folks have too much sway

what is the purpose of this? i know MSFT has no love for the GPLv3, but funding this kind of study? it’s ridiculous. MSFT might want to weigh the expected benefit versus the expected cost

“noted Sun critic” -> that’s a bit harsh… I haven’t had time to read the blog post yet, but thanks for pointing it out - I just saw the interview.
Mike: apologies, thought it would be in good fun given the tone of multiple entries.
What entires?
Ok, you got me!
No offense taken. I actually enjoy seeing MS stirring up renewed interest and actually spawning a constructive community discussion on what most people probably considered a boring subject. Software patents are very dangerous territory; the solutions are not simple, and of course often many are just looking out for this quarter’s #1…
