Boston: Not Looking Good

Originally uploaded by sogrady.

It was a dark ‘n stormy night…seriously. Like most of the Northeast, Maine was hammered last night by the storm, first with icy sleet and then just driving, torrential rain all through till the morning. Have to admit that I enjoyed listening to the wind howl, however. For those that haven’t been following along on my ever so fascinating Twitter feed, the morning’s been a bit of an adventure.

First there was the unholy hour I got up at (proof for you doubters), then there was the fun combo of torrential rain and downed tree limbs. Good times, good times. I have to say, I’ve driven through blizzards, I’ve driven through thunderstorms, but this has to be my first monsoon.

The good news was that the concern I had in the back of my mind - I’d be trapped in Georgetown by a flooded out ME-127 - proved a non-issue. Going back tonight may be a different story, but I’ll cross that bridge when I come to it. Apart from some standing water on the interstates (I-295 isn’t crowned properly), the drive here to Boston was good and uneventful.

Unfortunately, my early wakeup proved entirely unnecessary because the game was pushed back (at least) two hours, WEEI informed me on the way down. Despite the continued downpour and my own skepticism, however, the Sox are apparently optimistic that the game will be played. All I can do now is hope.

In the meantime, I’m killing time at a Starbucks. I wish caffeine worked for me, as I’m getting tired just sitting here.

You’re nuts - I could tell today’s game would be cancelled when I left Boston yesterday! It’s beautiful back here in Denver. ;-)

Whoa– weird. I haven’t read your blog before (well, maybe once a year ago or so), but I did drove through that same monsoon from Georgetown to Boston. Judging from your pictures on Flickr, you were, like me, staying on the east shore of Robinhood Cove.
Compare also our winter photos of the Reid State Park beach:

    *Almost* creepy.
