with all due respect to to Dave Dargo (who’s quite smart), i’m not sure how many folks are interested in debating the semantics of what a “database” is, or restricting their definition to those that handle recovery

re: Dargo, i agree. it’s not that he doesn’t have a point, and he clearly acknowledges the marketplace success and demand for MySQL style offerings, i’m just not - given that - why the definition of a database is worth debating.
