This Week’s Greasemonkey Script

Greasemonkey Enabled Gmail Popups

While the youngpup (AKA Aaron Boodman) may be suffering from post-Foo camp apprehension that Greasemonkey can’t continue to live up to expectations, I can’t say that I share his concern. Quite the contrary; I keep discovering tremendous new scripts for the Firefox plugin that make my various web applications dramatically more usable.

This week’s example is the Gmail conversation preview feature, that mimics the bubble preview feature seen in a variety of Ajax applications, most recently in the Zimbra demo we saw. Not a huge fan of the right-click to preview mechanism, but that’s a minor issue. This is a very cool addition, IMO.

So for what it’s worth, youngpup, I’ve got faith. In a BASF kind of way, GM doesn’t make the sites I visit or the applications I use, it makes them better. I know it’s not the same as getting props from a Caterina Fake, a Tim O’Reilly, or a Paul Graham, but oh well ;)
