Bloom off the Google Rose?

Anybody else think that the Google honeymoon is now officially over? GDS seems to have been the straw that broke the camel’s back, after some minor but substantial controversies in Gmail’s email scanning policy and Orkut’s Ts&Cs.

I’m not feeling too different towards Google these days myself, but it seems as if Google’s no longer the “in” company, as if some of its charm was lost in its transition to a public company. I guess it’s not that surprising, in that everyone seems to like rooting for the underdogs, and Google’s market cap makes that tag a bit absurd.

But I am a bit taken aback at how quickly sentiment seems to have shifted. Wasn’t it just yesterday that quirky Google was everyone’s favorite tech firm? Oh well, just another day in the life of corporate evolution I suppose.
