Fujitsu Siemens made an announcement last week about the new Eco Label they are launching for their goods. I was interested in learning more so I invited their head of Green IT, Dr. Bernd Kosch to come on the show to discuss.

GreenMonk interview with Vint Cerf

Vint Cerf was in the offices of Google.org today. Google.org is the non-profit arm of Google. We talked to him about Google.org’s interests in Energy, funding for SMEs in developing countries and disease incidence prediction. Watch out for the lights going out in the middle of the interview on Vint. In Google’s offices the lights are set to go off automatically if they don’t detect anyone in the room to save money. We got a real-life demo of this during the interview!

Smart Gird management software

One of the key challenges for any new technology, like Smart Grids, is finding intelligent ways to manage it. At the SAP for Utilities conference, I spoke to Krishna Kumar of Space-Time-Insight and he demonstrated their Smart Grid management software. I was impressed at the way the software reported at the city/block/individual residence level!

GreenMonk interviews SAP’s Stefan Engelhardt about SAP’s vision for Smart Grids

I met with Stefan Engelhardt, SAP’s Head of Industry Business Unit Utilities at the recent SAP for Utilities conference in San ANtonio, TX. We discussed SAP’s vision around decarbonisation, Smart Grids and Smart Meters. What was pleasantly surprising to me was the amount of interest in Smart Grids from utilities that SAP are seeing.

I attended the SAP for Utilities conference in San Antonio Tx this year and while there SAP’s Russel Boyer gave me a compelling demo of a Smart Grid in action. I asked him if would do it again for the camera and he generously obliged.

We got together with Marilyn Pratt from SAP, Linda Bortolus, also from SAP and Jim Spath from Black & Decker at the SAP TechEd 08 conference in Berlin. We discussed corporate social responsibility (CSR), global risk and compliance (GRC) and sustainability. The discussion was led by RedMonk/GreenMonk co-founder James Governor.
