One byproduct of that research was confirmation of a rise in interest in PhoneGap. <\/p>\n<p>PhoneGap itself has observed the same. These recently posted slides indicate massive growth in web traffic, both onsite and at GitHub, accelerating mailing list traffic and a spike in application creation.<br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div style=\"width:425px\"> <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.slideshare.net\/AndreCharland\/phone-gap-stats-growth\" title=\"Phone gap Stats &amp; Growth\" target=\"_blank\">Phone gap Stats &amp; Growth<\/a><\/strong>  <\/p>\n<div style=\"padding:5px 0 12px\"> View more <a href=\"http:\/\/www.slideshare.net\/\" target=\"_blank\">presentations<\/a> from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.slideshare.net\/AndreCharland\" target=\"_blank\">AndreCharland<\/a> <\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Our data indicates similar interest and traction. <\/p>\n<p>First, we explored the relative traction rates on StackOverflow of projects associated with mobile.<br \/>\n<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/sog\/6012455832\/\" title=\"Mentions (w\/o jQuery): Stack Overflow by sogrady, on Flickr\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm7.static.flickr.com\/6136\/6012455832_77edf32b05.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"309\" alt=\"Mentions (w\/o jQuery): Stack Overflow\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>As you can see, PhoneGap is outpacing other mobile projects from a mentions perspective within the Stack Overflow community. But what about Hacker News?<br \/>\n<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/sog\/6011923757\/\" title=\"PhoneGap on HN by sogrady, on Flickr\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm7.static.flickr.com\/6028\/6011923757_d52a64d369.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"269\" alt=\"PhoneGap on HN\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>As you can see, the data is similar. PhoneGap interest and traction is accelerating. <\/p>\n<p>We also performed a rudimentary sentiment analysis on the various projects using Twitter&#8217;s standard API.<br \/>\n<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/sog\/6012455844\/\" title=\"Twitter Sentiment Analysis by Project by sogrady, on Flickr\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm7.static.flickr.com\/6026\/6012455844_f67972b886.jpg\" width=\"499\" height=\"500\" alt=\"Twitter Sentiment Analysis by Project\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Before we get into the results: this is a small, non-random sample, so it cannot be considered representative. It&#8217;s useful for informational purposes only. With that said, PhoneGap&#8217;s relatively positive performance here is unsurprising given their increased adoption. <\/p>\n<p>What you&#8217;re looking for in this chart is skew: are the bars higher on the left (negative comments) or right (positive comments)? And how far do they go, which is a different way of asking, when people said good or bad things, how many good or bad words did they use?<\/p>\n<p>As you can see here, PhoneGap is positively skewed, and had the most positive tweets (those with a net of 5) of any project included. <\/p>\n<p>When you consider the metrics, then, and the fact that PhoneGap is aimed at a problem in mobile platform fragmentation that is getting worse by the day, it&#8217;s clear that it&#8217;s a project worth tracking. <\/p>\n<p><b>Disclosure<\/b>: PhoneGap is a RedMonk customer. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On behalf of one of our clients, we&#8217;ve been doing some number crunching on the mobile market in recent weeks.
