We don’t have to do all the analysis. There are plenty of very smart people providing that every day. Witness Luis’ (of GNOME fame, and one of my favorite RedMonk commenters) excellent three<\/a> part<\/a> series<\/a> on the recent GPLv3 flareup. Insightful, articulate, and best of all – very rational. I don’t agree with *everything* Luis says, but close to it. As a result, it would seem redundant for me to rehash this for you; just about everything I’d say on the subject has been said already. My major concern, for instance, has already highlighted by Mark<\/a> in a comment<\/a> on Luis’ blog. <\/p>\n

For those that haven’t been following along at home, Simon will get you caught up<\/a> in his piece exhorting the different sides to engage positively with one another. While I applaud the sentiment – I’m all about rational discourse – I see this getting worse before it gets better. I’m a believer that compromise is the ultimately the best bridge between differences, and unfortunately, the issues here are deeply enough held that that may not be possible. Hope I’m wrong. <\/p>\n
