Hi Stephen,
Gears is enabled on my blog for local storage without a network connection. It’s an enhanced cache some visitors have enabled in their browsers, including Chrome, for fast content serving.
I am listening inside the browser for the preferred or best ways each user agent can serve content and adapting appropriately.

yeah, think of it as a poor man’s very, very, very local CDN. Certainly helps speed up admin of my wordpress install.
