Read thru to the link on “Creating Screencasts on Linux”. I would have sworn I already tried xvidcap. I must have done something wrong the last time.
I installed the .deb package and it worked, first time. I need to change the encoding to see if I can get better results but it was more than passable (even on my T60p with the horrific ATI video chipset).
