Ok, I’ll Play

So Bill tagged me. Seeing as I’m at the airport absurdly early – as usual – why not play along? Five things about me (that you (probably) didn’t know before):

  1. Top 10 Bands I listen to:
According to last.fm: Pearl Jam, Eels, Van Morrison, Frank Black, The Detroit Cobras, Beck, Pedro the Lion, Guided by Voices, Modest Mouse, Fatboy Slim
  2. Rubber Band:
I wear a rubber band on my left wrist until it breaks, then replace it with the first one I find. I’ve been doing it as long as I can remember, and there are no exceptions (unless it’s too small, wide, or a funny color). And before you ask, yes I know it’s weird, and no you shouldn’t snap it.
  3. Favorite Domestic Chore:
    Splitting wood, by far.
  4. Cut and Paste:
While a senior in college, a friend had to explain the concept of cut and paste to me. Three times.
  5. Nosejob:
Also while in college, I narrowly avoided having to get plastic surgery after cutting out a massive hunk of flesh off the bridge of my nose via helmet. Most people can’t tell now, except for the fact that it burns very easily.

Following the protocol, I’ll tag:

Alex, Dave, Donnie, John, and Stephe. Sorry gents.

  1. See http://www-03.ibm.com/developerworks/blogs/page/pmuellr?entry=five_things

I also read all the Redmonk blogs on a regular basis, including this one. But that’s nothing new, just a reminder that lots of fun and informative posts can be found in these blogs.

    thanks,
    dave

  2. I find your new format tres confusing, sweetheart – I have to scroll down a full page of white space with a bunch of irrelevant (to me) stuff listed in a narrow left column before I get to any content. From a marketing/editing standpoint its unattractive.

  3. dave: damn, wasn’t quick enough.

mom: apologies. will try to keep those comments in mind when i get around to redesigning this place, which should be shortly.

  5. Five things you probably don’t know about me either…

Good lord. I’ve been tagged twice before I even noticed (thanks to Zack and Stephen). This of course raises all sorts of questions about what one is willing to share and how. Do we pick safe clever things? Odd embarrassing…

  6. […] I’ve been watching this go around, not missing being tagged, but Mr. O’Grady got me while he was stuck in an airport. The hardest part about this is I’m pretty much an open book, those who know me, know me. […]

  7. […] Saturday, a group of 12 of us started the 5.7 mile hike (mostly uphill) to the McNamara Hut near Aspen around 9:30 in the morning. While it cooled off a bit later in the day as the sun hid behind some clouds, we were generally gifted with some great weather. It was warm enough, in fact, that most of us were hiking in just a base layer plus vest. After a couple of the older participants chose to turn around early due mostly to fatigue, the rest of us pushed on and made it to the hut – elevation just shy of 11,000 feet – between 2 and 3 in the afternoon. After firing up the woodstove, we got around to a.) consuming the beverages I and a couple of the other guys had hiked up,[2] b.) chopping some wood (which I actually enjoy), c.) playing some cards (Uno is just as fun as I remember from my childhood), d.) cooking dinner (rice, steak, and veggies), and e.) crashing very early in the evening (9:30ish, in some cases).
