{"id":16,"date":"2004-07-29T18:27:47","date_gmt":"2004-07-30T01:27:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.redmonk.com\/jgovernor\/wp\/?p=16"},"modified":"2004-07-29T18:27:47","modified_gmt":"2004-07-30T01:27:47","slug":"open-source-java-movies-up","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/redmonk.com\/jgovernor\/open-source-java-movies-up\/","title":{"rendered":"Open Source Java Movies Up"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>So the debate over whether Java should be open sourced or not continues at OSCon this week. <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.sun.com\/roller\/page\/DaneseCooper\/20040728#the_java_debate_at_oscon\">Apparently Tim O&#8217;Reilly was surprised<\/a> by the fact Sun got a round of applause for its stewardship of Java during the <a href=\"http:\/\/story.news.yahoo.com\/news?tmpl=story2&amp;u=\/zd\/20040701\/tc_zd\/130742\">debate on open source <\/a>at JavaONE.  It maybe shouldn&#8217;t surprise Tim though&#8211;after all O&#8217;Reilly is driving the excellent notion of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.oreillynet.com\/lpt\/wlg\/3017\">Architecture of Participation<\/a> into the mainstream, and its surely hard to argue that Java has not engendered community participation, even if sometimes the knives, teeth and claws are out.<\/p>\n<p>Its natural that OSCon delegates should want to see more open source code bases, but my favorite angle on this issue this week comes in the shape of a<a href=\"http:\/\/osconblog.osdir.com\/movies\/OSCON6\/TalkingtoNon-Geeks-java.web.mov?PHPSESSID=81d86ab978ef8fe662ab665b34e2b083\"> movie <\/a>&#8212; open up Starbucks!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>So the debate over whether Java should be open sourced or not continues at OSCon this week.
