According to David Johnson, leader of the Roller project, IBM is [stepping up to the plate](http://rollerweblogger.org/page/roller?entry=ibm_helping_with_roller), ready to help develop an open source enterprise class blogging system, with group blogging capability.

What is up next? [Derby](http://db.apache.org/) integration. This is all good. IBM and Sun are acting like grown ups, which will surely benefit both company’s customers. As i said recently IBM [should not fork](http://www.redmonk.com/jgovernor/archives/000756.html) useful code for no good reason.

> Open source is a mindset not just a set of licences. We’d all benefit if IBM and Sun started collaborating, and stopped sniping.

Credit where its due. Well done Sun’s David and IBM’s [Elias Torres](http://torrez.us/) for making this happen.

A note to the DB2 folks- apparently it can be used as a Roller back end datastore. A new context for the database-you listening [Jon](http://www-128.ibm.com/developerworks/db2/library/techarticle/dm-0410prial/?ca=dgr-lnxw01IBMrevealsDerby#author)?
