IBM must have missed out on upwards of a hundred billion dollars in UK central government mega-contracts this last ten years. Microsoft has done an amazing job of 0wning the Blair administration in terms of software choices. Services companies other than IBM have made a lot of play in the UK, mopping up the big deals. Sadly delivery has been worse than piss poor. For every procurement success there are at least ten failures. IBM should see the change of administration as an opportunity to try and help fix that. So why not call Gordon and make it personal? If it helps wins you one deal that will be the best phone call you ever made. Then again, Gordon’s own record on use of management consultants is at best sub optimal…
